From an early age, the study of music, compositions, and collaborations have been a constant in Jair’s life.
Jair Benitez comes from families with a musical tradition in Colombia. The Benitez-Tordecilla families have been among the most important in contributing to folklore and typical rhythms embodied in the greatest recordings of their country.
From the age of 5, Jair began to study classical piano, solfeggio, and rhythm at the Laureles Music School (Medellín, Colombia). With renowned teachers from the Antioquia Symphony Orchestra, such as maestro Jorge Franco, and his brother Fernando Franco, both arrangers. Later, he began studies at the Instituto de Bellas Artes de Medellín where he continued studies in music theory, harmony, art history, and piano & counterpoint creativity, graduating in 1990.
Throughout the years of his career, Jair has participated as a general producer in multiple projects –several being his own projects, always seeking to offer different material to the Hispanic public.
One of the first projects was the first women’s orchestra in the city of Medellín, Colombia. “Sola Vaya”, made up of 15 women students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Antioquia, represented a maturation process since 80% of the members exclusively performed classical music, and the orchestra would perform Colombian tropical music.
After months of rehearsals, the project paid off, the orchestra recorded two songs for the Orquidea Records company, Christmas with Sola Vaya and Homenaje al Súper Combo Los Tropicales, produced at the Promix studios in the city of Medellín. The songs reached the top spots on local radio stations, drawing the attention of various promoters and beginning a stage of live performances in Colombia. The first female orchestra to perform tropical music. Jair Benitez was the producer, arranger, and main teacher in this successful project in the 90s, thanks to his freshness and originality.
Another of the important projects in his career was the formation of “Sonora Moderna” in 2006, where he met renowned musicians in Mexico City, Mexico. With their production titled Punta de Lanze, this group reached the top 50 of the most listened to that same year, interpreting Caribbean songs of great acceptance in the Aztec country.
In 2007, following the same musical line and at the request of Perlees Casa Disquera, he made a second album entitled La Colombia Star recording the most popular Colombian songs in Mexico, with Colombian musicians living in this country. Of this production, the song “El Pobre del Barrio” stood out, pre-nominated for the Furia Musical Awards 2007.
After having gathered experience as a producer, pianist, and arranger in his own projects and collaborations in Colombia, he decided to dedicate himself to producing at a higher continuous level with musical studies to reinforce and consolidate his knowledge in art.
He studied Music Production (including mixing, mastering, editing, midis, and others) at Escuela de Produccion Musical Gmartell in Mexico City, obtaining a diploma in 2005.
In 2006 he obtained a certificate in Composition in Contemporary Popular Music at the Academia de Música Fermatta, in Mexico City. From this certificate, he obtained new techniques of musical composition and arrangements for big bands and symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, and modern orchestras.
In 2008 I finished a Piano and Solfeggio course at the Escuela Superior de Música Mexico, where he made a Recordareis of the essential fundamentals of music.
In 2010 I applied for a Diploma in a Harmony Master Class at the Escuela Libre de Música in Mexico City.
